I am a professional modelmaker by trade with over 20 years experience building a variety of architectural models.
I took up wood carving as a complete contrast to my day job. My first carvings were inspired by the Green man myth and were hand carved in cedar. I have continued to carve a variety of pieces around this theme and my interest in the Green man continues to influence me.
Over the last few years I have started carving green wood, making spoons and learning how to carve kuksas and bowls. These are hand carved from freshly cut timber using a carving axe to rough out a shape, then various knives to achieve the final finish.
I've been inspired by many spoon carvers who incorporate different techniques and decorating styles on their spoons,
encouraging me to explore my own. From carving the humble teaspoon to the carved dragon head spoon you always learn something new.
